The Delete Key Awards recognize authors who aren’t using their delete key enough. They call attention to bad writing in all kinds of books — fiction, nonfiction and poetry — for adults or children.
Janice Harayda launched the Delete Key Awards as an extension of her blog, One-Minute Book Reviews, www.oneminutebookreviews.wordpress.com. Each time she reviews a book for One-Minute Book Reviews, she lists the best and worst lines in the book. Some of the worst lines were so bad that she decided that somebody should recognize them in a formal way. So she’s going to list them on this site and choose the year’s worst in early 2007. She hopes eventually to expand the awards to allow visitors to this site cast their own votes for the year’s worst writing.
Watch this page for a list of candidates for the first Delete Key Awards … coming soon! To nominate a bad line you’ve read in a book published in 2006, post a comment on this site.
For a preview of the lines that may make the short list, visit One-Minute Book Reviews and scroll to the bottom of each review to find the worst line in the book.
